New Iranian Weapon a Warning to "Israel"
Source: Alalam.ir, 6-8-2008
TEHRAN--An Iranian expert on strategic affairs termed Iran's successful testing of a new naval weapon as an apparent response to the threats made by the Zionist regime.
Amir Moussavi told Al-Alam website on Tuesday "Iran is entitled to demonstrate competence of its forces against any possible aggression."
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) tested a 300-kilometer range naval weapon on Monday that could use to close oil-shipping routes in Iran's strategic Strait of Hormuz, at the entry to the Persian Gulf.
Referring to the unique potentials of the new Iran-made weapon including accurate targeting without satellite surveillance, Mousavi said that testing the naval weapon was geared toward securing national interests.
The commander of the IRGC, Brigadier Generel Mohammad Ali Jaafari, said his forces have recently tested a naval weapon with a 300 km range that could target any vessel within its range and "would send it to the depths".
He added the weapons' system introduces state-of-the-art technology never used before.
"The design and production technology used in this weapon is completely indigenous to Iran and has never been employed by any other country," Jafari said but did not give details.
In July, Iran test-fired nine missiles in a military drill in the Persian Gulf, including the upgraded, longer-range Shahab-3 which can hit targets as far as "Israel" and US bases in the Middle East.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Zionist Regime Shaoul Mofaz early in June said that if Iran continues its nuclear program, "Israel" will attack it. However, "Israeli" officials slammed his threats and accused him of using the issue for domestic political ends.
