Lieberman Rejects Bibi’s Draft Law Proposal, Pushing «Israel» to Possible Early elections
By Staff, Agencies
Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beytenu party on Sunday rejected a last ditch effort by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a government, with the incumbent PM presenting party leaders with a new draft law proposal.
Lieberman’s secular-right wing party said that it would not give up its position on the draft law, reiterating an earlier statement saying there was "nothing left to discuss".
"The invitations to personal meetings with the prime minister, as well as a message from the Council of Torah Sages 10 minutes before the evening news shows, are two sides of one move aimed at putting pressure on MK Lieberman," Yisrael Beytenu said.
The statement came after Netanyahu on Sunday said he was working on a “last-ditch effort to form a right-wing government and prevent unnecessary elections.”
While Lieberman rejected Netanyahu's invitation to meet with party leaders to discuss his proposal, the ultra-Orthodox parties accepted the prime ministers new draft.
Netanyahu said his proposal was “based on the principles established by the army and on the data that the army has determined. There is no reason to reject this [proposal].”
Meanwhile, Likud lawmakers were told their attendance was required at the parliament on Monday to potentially vote to dissolve parliament.
