Resistance bloc welcomed any memorandum that would help protect the country from the "Israeli" threat
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 20-8-2008
The Loyalty to the Resistance bloc released a statement addressing Lebanese-Syrian relations on Wednesday.
"Normalizing relations will pave the way for a new phase of coordination and cooperation between the two countries so that they can work toward common goals based on mutual respect and their awareness of the dangers that threaten their stability," the statement read.
The bloc said that the election of President Michel Suleiman and the formation of a national unity cabinet were critical for the "revival of the country's institutions."
Regarding the Hizbullah-Salafist Memorandum of Understanding, the bloc said they welcomed any memorandum that would reduce internal conflicts and help protect the country from the "Israeli" threat. The bloc also said they remained optimistic about the content of the recent MOU despite attempts by some to hinder or stall the agreement.
The bloc said that it was critical that consensus guide the choice of who is to be the next army commander as well as all administrative appointments. "This will stop people's confusions and will enhance development programs."
On the subject of a new electoral law, the bloc said that it was important that the law be drafted in the manner agreed upon last May in the Doha accords.
