General Aoun: Revolt over Doha Agreement Will Lead to Catastrophe
Source: Al-Manar TV, 26-8-2008
The head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun said Monday that the new division of electoral districts must be adopted in Tuesday's parliamentary session. "Otherwise, we will enter a new period and face another issue," he noted.
Speaking to reporters after heading his parliamentary bloc weekly meeting, Aoun recalled that the new electoral districts were part of the Doha agreement signed between Lebanese leaders in the Qatari capital during the month of May, stressing that any revolt over this agreement would lead to catastrophe.
The General also announced his bloc would propose a bill to define the powers of deputy prime minister, saying that a decision was taken to present a draft concerning the cabinet's internal regulation.
Aoun noted that the disputes over the appointment of the army commander were taking a lot more trouble than it should. "We did not give any suggestions in this regard but left the issue up to the President who was a previous army commander," he revealed.
The FPM leader also retorted at critiques he received because of his Sunday successful visit to the South, saying that all criticism in this concern was based on "envy and jealousy." He invited the critics to visit the villages he went to, "and then we will see if people would gather to welcome them," he added. "One must have an honorable history to be able to talk," the General concluded.
Aoun accused one of the state's "most important institutions" of executing an illegal appointment. "This is unacceptable," he said, vowing to reveal evidence later.
