RAMALLAH--A Palestinian man was shot in the face with three rubber bullets and critically injured by ‘Israeli' occupying troops during an overnight raid in the West Bank Monday, Palestinian medics said.

‘Israeli' occupying army had come to the village of Nilin -- the site of weekly demonstrations against ‘Israel's' apartheid separation wall -- to arrest a relative of Awad Srur, 40, a factory worker and father of four, witnesses said.

In the course of the operation Srur was shot with four rubber-coated bullets, three of which struck him in the face, according to doctors treating him at a hospital in the nearby town of Ramallah.

Nilin residents said Srur had a speech impediment, which could have led to confusion during the incident.

In recent months Nilin has seen weekly protests against the construction of a nearby section of the Zionist regime's separation wall that villagers say will cut them off from hundreds of acres (hectares) of their farmland.

The protests frequently turn violent, with Palestinian youths hurling rocks and ‘Israeli' border police dispersing them with tear gas and rubber bullets.

In late July Israeli army troopers shot and killed a 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old in Nilin within a few days of each other.

Palestinians view the wall, which is mostly built on West Bank land, as part of a larger land grab that threatens the viability of their future state.
