Britain is planning to bring in population-wide mass testing for coronavirus to help control the pandemic, said health minister Matt Hancock on Wednesday.

“This is a really, really important drive that we have across government to bring in mass testing, population-wide testing,” Hancock told BBC radio.

“We’ll ramp it up, certainly over the remainder of this year.”

The number of coronavirus cases worldwide has surpassed 22 million, with the highest infection tally confirmed in the United States [over 5.4 million], Brazil [over 3.4 million], and India [2.7 million], according to Johns Hopkins University.

The number of those diagnosed with coronavirus is on the rise with over 250,000 new cases confirmed globally in the past 24 hours. India showed the highest daily increase with over 65,000 infected. Cases are also spiking in the US and Latin America.
