Head of the Free Patriotic Movement MP General Michel Aoun said on Thursday during his second day visit to Syria that the miracle was achieved by the Lebanese resistance fighters and it has imposed a new military equation that would stay as long as our society continued it support for the resistance.
General Aoun continued his Damascene tour. And at a press conference in the Damascus University, the MP reconfirmed his alliance with Hizbullah. "We and the Resistance have found understanding since 2006, and we succeeded, and this accomplishment was reflected in the Memorandum of Understanding with Hizbullah in the face of the most savage "Israeli" war on Lebanon," he told a crowd.
General Aoun also slammed "Israel", which he said had "not realized the victory of the Resistance and did not learn from the past ... For 60 years "Israel" has confronted the Arabs through the use of military force ... while we support human beings."
"During the July War, we made the decision to support the Resistance, and we were ready to carry the responsibilities of our position."
Aoun added that "Israeli" leaders had tried to cover their failure in the July War it fought with Hizbullah, during which over 1,000 Lebanese were killed, mostly civilians, by claiming that they were not prepared, "although we all know that was not true." The "Israeli" people's disappointment and depression calls for "Israel" to reconsider its positions, he said, calling for an "Israeli" withdrawal from all occupied Arab countries.
The retired general called for a solution to the issue of Palestinian refugees by approving their right to return to their homeland. "The Palestinian tragedy and its repercussions on the Arab people was founded through a UN Security Council resolution that divided the country... I call on the UN to fulfill its responsibility to solve this problem, or else it will have further negative repercussions."
"Peace cannot be achieved as long as some people's rights are not ensured."
Aoun denied that he had ever cooperated with foreign parties against the Lebanese and said he was always "ready to be held accountable."
The FPM leader's press conference did not spare the Lebanese cabinet, which he held "responsible for arresting some persons without legal grounds."
"Terrorist factions carry certain ideologies, and no one knows their source... Some parties are supporting them financially, and I leave the analysis to you," he said.
Aoun also said he had "many reservations on the Taif Agreement because there is no equality between constitutional institutions, especially between the Lebanese presidency and premiership."
"Our aim is to accomplish political victory 20 years late in order to foster real reform... It is going to take time because maturity takes time," he said. "I urge everyone to move beyond the past, purify memory, reconsider choices and adopt new ideas in order to pave the way for a bright future, accomplish independence and enhance a powerful society."
"If a certain society respects human rights, it should respect others' religions and opinions... When we talk of diversity, we are talking about the right to be different and not incite disagreement," he said in reference to Lebanese society.
