Aoun: Swiss style defense strategy is not suitable for Lebanon΄s realities

In an interview with Rusiya Lyaum channel on Wednesday, Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said that Head of the Lebanese Forces Executive Council Samir Geagea's proposal for the defense strategy is based on the Swiss system. This system, he said, does not properly equate to the economic and demographic realities in Lebanon.

Aoun said that there is no Christian reconciliation because the ongoing political disagreements reflect differing opinions and choices that are irreconcilable.
He also feared the possible recurrence of assassinations and attacks before the parliamentary elections and added that many foreign intelligence services operate in Lebanon.
He emphasized the importance of preventing illegal conflicts and political clashes, and added that there are still some security difficulties.

"I do not want to see any armed people in Lebanon and this matter is in favor of [Progressive Socialist Party leader MP] Walid Jumblatt and others," Aoun said.
He also said that President Michel Suleiman was a consensus president who attempted to achieve stability.
On the permanent settlement of Palestinian people in Lebanon, Aoun said that the United Nations created this problem by instituting the division of Palestine and the UN should therefore solve it. He concluded that "Israel" rejected the Palestinian's return to their homeland and Lebanon also refused their settlement.
