Hizbullah official in South Lebanon, Sheikh Nabil Qaouk, said attempts to block compensation from reaching southern residents had political motives.

"The other party did not learn from the experiences of the past. They are unaccustomed to national partnership and are instead used to exclusivity and uniqueness," Qaouk said at a ceremony marking the thirtieth anniversary of the victory of the Islamic revolution in Iran.

"What is happening today affirms what we need to guarantee a third of the government, for if it were not for the opposition's veto power in government, the other party would have implicated us in new crises that our country does not need," the Hizbullah official said.

"The issue of the Council for South is not an Amal issue but an issue of the Lebanese resistance and the protection of the achievements of the resistance," Sheikh Qaouk added.
