Head of Media and Telecommunications Commission MP Hassan Fadlallah told As-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Sunday that there was a problem in the wiretapping issue caused by certain parties receiving large quantities of private information.

"The possibility of illegal wiretapping does not give the excuse for official wiretapping and violation of laws," he said.
He added that the Law 140 only gives the defense and interior ministers the right to make administrative level decisions on wiretapping and which data should be provided to security services.

Fadlallah denied claims that Hizbullah was conducting wiretapping and added that the party's deputies were the ones who called for confronting illegal wiretapping. Fadlallah also said that no deputies have accused Hizbullah of wiretapping.

He said that the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc announced that if any party had evidence on illegal wiretapping, they should submit their case to the parliament, cabinet and general prosecutor, adding that political accusations of illegal wiretapping were untrue.
