Samaha: Does Mirza Have "Bellemare, Wiretapping" Syndrome?
Lebanese Former Minister Michel Samaha said on Monday that the speeches delivered on Saturday by the March 14 forces while marking the forth anniversary of the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri didn't reflect the reality. "The March 14 forces have no credibility in the way they deal with each other as well as with their supporters," he noted.
Samaha said that the international tribunal (to try suspects in the Hariri murder) that would start operating by March 1 would "uncover the sins and violations made by those who threatened the Lebanese with the tribunal," revealing that there was a tendency to sue those who fabricated witnesses like Mohamad Zuheir Siddiq and many others.
The former minister raised the issue of the four officers who have been held in custody since 2005 without charges over Hariri's assassination. "Are they suspects or what? Would they be taken to the Hague as merchandise?" he wondered.
He criticized the "politicized" justice system in Lebanon, wondering whether General prosecutor Said Mirza had the "wiretapping and Bellemare syndrome or something else God forbid."
He was hinting that Mirza, who was admitted to hospital last week on the eve of a parliamentary session over wiretapping, wasn't actually sick, saying that the actual disease that hit Mirza was the wiretapping dossier as well as the international tribunal's prosecutor Daniel Bellemare "who might release the four officers and thus, prove that the Lebanese justice system was completely politicized."
