Bassil: (US backed) March 14 wants single-day-elections in order to obstruct them

Telecommunications Minister Gebran Bassil told ad-Diyar newspaper on Sunday he had proof many parties were using several methods to conduct wiretapping.

He added the (US backed) March 14 alliance was determined to schedule the upcoming parliamentary elections on a single day so as to have the opportunity, if needed, to obstruct the elections in some areas under the pretext of security.

Bassil also said that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun would give a speech during a dinner organized by the FPM on March 14, but he did not say if the party would announce its electoral lists that day.

Bassil concluded that he hoped Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir would stop supporting one party over another.
