Aoun Calls to Choose between Selling Lebanese and Reform
Source: Al-Manar TV, 09-03-2009
The head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun said that the Lebanese had to choose between "the downward path of Lebanon and its sale in a public auction, or the adoption of change and reform to begin marching upward."
In an FPM dinner Saturday night, MP Aoun commented on the policies of successive governments and their negative impact on Lebanese citizens. "There is no doubt that what we are experiencing today is the accumulation of the work of successive governments since 1992, and specifically the manipulation of the currency market and loans and high taxation ... [which led to] the disappearance of the middle class disappeared and increased poverty and unemployment," he said.
"How long wait must we wait for the basic needs of life, including water and electricity?" Aoun asked.
Aoun then turned to the March 14, 2005 popular demonstration, which he described as "the finest manifestation of national unity," and "a unique occasion in which citizens expressed their desire for change."
The FPM leader deplored the fact that "the factional interests of the forces of Bristol then overthrew all good wishes expressed by the Lebanese people ... and approved the policy of divide and rule."
Aoun said that the (US backed) February 14 forces then tried to demolish the understanding between the FPM and Hizbullah, adding that the understanding had "saved and maintained stability and tranquility in the fiercest war waged by ‘Israel' against Lebanon."
