Once again, wiretapping is raised in Lebanon amid increasing demands to fully implement the law and put an end to ongoing violations...

In this context, the head of the Media and Telecommunications Commission MP Hassan Fadlallah delivered on Friday a report to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri regarding violations of the freedom of communication law.

Fadlallah noted that the report was based on minutes taken at three commission meetings, which were attended by the relevant ministers. Fadlallah also said the cabinet should commit to the law and stressed that the opposition will insist on fully implementing the articles of Law 140.

On Saturday, Speaker Berri told Lebanese daily As-Safir that he would study on Sunday the report as well as the annexed documents, which were described as "very important and sensitive."

Berri noted that, following the study, he would decide the next step, noting that all options were open. "We might hold a session for the joint parliamentary committees but we might also call for a general parliamentary session to discuss forming an investigative parliamentary committee on wiretapping with judicial authorities," he said.

Meanwhile, Berri pointed out that, according to his preliminary reading of the report, "it seems that the hidden things were greater than expected." He asserted that he will proceed with the file until the end and according to its requirements.
