Wahhab: If Bellemare keeps detaining 4 generals, hed be considered "a liar" & "a head of a mafia" ’
Tawhid Movement leader Wiam Wahhab told Al-Manar television on Monday that if Special Tribunal General Prosecutor Judge Daniel Bellemare did not release the four generals in custody on suspicion of involvement in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, then he would be considered "a liar and will remain a liar until proven otherwise, because he is not a judge, he is the head of a mafia."
Wahhab said if the four generals were released, "we will regain a bit of confidence in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon."
He noted Holland, where the court is based, had its own conditions for the generals to be handed over to the tribunal.
Wahhab also said that the memorandum of understanding between Lebanon and Bellemare's office should be "thrown in the garbage" and warned the opposition against Prime Minister Fouad Saniora's attempt to deceive the March 8 coalition through seeking to approve the MoU within the cabinet.
"The Lebanese army cannot be a resistance or replace the Resistance; it can only support it," Tawhid leader said.
"How do the leaders of the March 14 alliance accept US Ambassador to Lebanon Michele Sison's presence at the launching of their campaign agenda on Saturday at BIEL? What would they do if Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem attended the launching of the opposition's agenda?" Wahhab asked.
He claimed that Information Branch chief Wissam al-Hassan should be asked about Shaker al-Abssi, who was the leader of the extremist Islamist group Fatah al-Islam, or even the Future Movement, which Wahhab claimed was supporting Abssi.
Wahhab said that some admitted they were behind the assassination of Future Movement MP Walid Eido.
Wahhab accused a "certain" gulf country of paying $2 billion toward the Lebanese elections. "The decision is already taken: $1 billion against Change and Reform bloc leader General Michel Aoun," he said.
He also said he was committed to the opposition's decision concerning the distribution of parliamentary seats, especially the one of Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and said he hoped the Tawhid movement would be represented in parliament.
He added Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri dominated in al-Kharoub district and confirmed that there was no disagreement with Minister of Youth and Sports Talal Arslan.
