In her first major public address since the 2024 US presidential elections, former Vice President Kamala Harris accused Donald Trump of betraying the core values of the United States.

Speaking at the 20th anniversary gala of Emerge America in San Francisco, Harris said that the country is witnessing the “wholesale abandonment of America’s highest ideals” under Trump’s leadership.

“This administration isn’t working to advance our nation’s founding principles,” Harris declared. “Instead, we are witnessing the deliberate dismantling of those ideals.”

Harris, who ran against Trump in the 2024 presidential race after President Joe Biden stepped down, used the 15-minute keynote speech to praise those resisting the Trump administration’s policies — including members of Congress, judges who “uphold the rule of law,” universities defying what she called “unconstitutional demands,” and everyday Americans defending Social Security.

“They are counting on the idea that if they can make some people afraid, it will silence others,” she said. “But what they’ve overlooked is that fear isn’t the only thing that’s contagious. Courage is contagious, too.”

She further warned that what appears to be chaos at the start of Trump’s second term is, in reality, a calculated effort rooted in “Project 2025,” a long-planned conservative policy blueprint. “Let’s not be fooled — this is not disarray. This is an orchestrated strategy to impose an agenda that’s been decades in the making,” Harris said.

Her appearance comes amid growing speculation that Harris may launch a campaign for governor of California. While she did not confirm her intentions, her speech marked a strong return to the political stage after leaving office in January 2025.
