Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has requested the resignation of all Cabinet secretaries following the disappointing outcome of the May 12 midterm elections, where only six administration-backed senatorial candidates secured seats.

According to a statement from the Presidential Communications Office on Thursday, the move is intended to give Marcos the flexibility to evaluate each department’s performance and determine who aligns with the administration’s new priorities.

“With three years remaining in his term, the president said it is time to realign the government with the people’s expectations,” the statement read. It also described this decision as a shift from the initial phase of governance to a “more focused and performance-driven approach.”

The office assured the public that essential government services will continue without disruption during this transition period.
