The CIA stated it was forced to shut the main gate of its headquarters near Washington, DC, after US media reported that security personnel had shot an individual outside the building on Thursday.

"The front gate at Headquarters is closed until further notice. Please use alternate routes for Thursday, May 22nd," the CIA said in a post on X.

Later in the day, NBC News reported, citing an informed source, that guards at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, had non-fatally shot an individual early Thursday morning in what the agency described as a "security incident."

The report cited a CIA spokesperson stating there had been a security incident outside the CIA Headquarters that prompted a law enforcement response, noting the main gate remained closed and advising employees to use alternate routes while adding that further details would be provided when appropriate.

This incident represents the second security breach at CIA headquarters in slightly more than two months, following a March event where the Fairfax County Police Department apprehended a man outside the Virginia facility after a barricade situation unfolded.
