Sheikh Qassem: Forthcoming elections a step on a long path ~ We accept West΄s retreat but expect actions
Source: Hizbollah Staff, 24-03-2009
Deputy Secretary General of Hizbullah Sheikh Naim Qassem attended the International Conference on the two world renowned scholars Sheikh Abdullah el-Alayli and Mohammad Jawad Moghnieh.
In a speech he gave at the conference he said "some Western countries have launched appeals for dialogue with us, due to our resolve, sacrifices and triumphs, saying that these steps constitute a back down on previous stands".
He further stressed "while we accept a backing away from mistakes, we wait for deeds. We refuse such steps being taken as a tactical approach to a period of time." His eminence pointed out that "in any case we are ready for any emergency that may arise."
In reference to the parliamentary elections, his eminence considered the upcoming elections a step on a long path that will contribute to the stabilization of some power centers and the alteration of others. It will not change the balances and equations, nor modify the political track, which we have arrived at by rejecting foreign tutelage, liberating Lebanon and protecting its independence."
In stressing that, Sheikh Qassem emphasized that "Syria is a brotherly neighboring country, with which we share hopes and risks. Iran is an active and influential player that supports our issues against arrogance and Zionism, while Arab countries are the natural embracing surrounding for our causes and the Islamic countries form the wider horizon we need to be with him and they be with us."
