Fneish Welcomes International Arab Labor Federation Secretary...Jamam: Protect Workers, Do not Politicize Workers Affair
Source: Hizbollah Staff, 24-03-2009
Labor Minister Mohammed Fneish at noon today met with the Secretary General of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions Mr. Hassan Jammam, in the presence of the General Labor Union President Ghassan Ghoson and the General Secretary of the Union Mr. Saadeddine Hamidi Sakr.
After the meeting Jammam said: "The meeting with his Excellency the Minister was very positive, we talked about various issues of work, workers, workers' rights, freedom to trade unions in Lebanon and the Arab world, as well as existing positive cooperation between the Ministry and the General Labor Union in finding solutions to problems."
"We also stressed, as an International Confederation of Arab Labor Unions, to his Excellency, our role in defending Arab workers wherever they may be, and that we utterly refuse to allow the victimization of workers by political disputes regardless of the side responsible.
In this field, we reviewed what the Syrian workers have sometimes been exposed to in recent stages in Lebanon, where they have suffered more than 56 incidents of murder, torture and assault. A decline in such incidents has been observed, with only about four cases registered in the last 2 years."
"But what we want is the pursuit and arrest of the attackers, whether through public claim or by giving the rightful owners their claim to damages."
"His Excellency's position in this domain was noticeably good, we told him that whatever the situation between Syria and Lebanon, our relations are governed by coexistence of cooperation because the blending of the two peoples can not be divided by laws or resolutions."
