Former Prime Minister Omar Karami said he "regrets the Prime Minister Fouad Saniora's candidacy" for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Saida district.

In an interview with As-Safir daily on Wednesday, Karami said Saida was "the gate to the South and to the Resistance," adding that the city's "individuality" -which had been respected for so long, even at times when Education Minister and MP Bahia Hariri's position was weak- should have been taken into consideration. He voiced hope that everybody would realize the need to keep the battle in Saida political.

Karami also said that the Tripoli district should expect an electoral battle, which he said was "conceived when we saw great numbers crawling to Qoreitem to beg for a parliamentary seat."
The former PM said he restore "Tripoli's violated dignity," where Tripoli citizens would defend and protect their city.

Karami said it was still too early to say whether he was going to form an electoral list in Tripoli and added, "We will take our time discussing, after which we will choose our allies and decide how to conduct the electoral battle."
