Vice President of the Higher Shia Islamic Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan met with Egyptian Ambassador Ahmad al-Beddawi on Wednesday to discuss Lebanese-Egyptian relations and the situation in the Middle East.
Last week the Egyptian government accused Hizbullah of plotting an attack in Egypt.
Qabalan called for treating the tension in relations as result of the accusations calmly and wisely and away from the media.
The dispute between Hizbullah and Egypt was "exaggerated," Qabalan said.
"Lebanon and Egypt are two brotherly states that have both confronted "Israel", offered their blood and made huge sacrifices to keep their nations' dignity and pride," Qabalan said to Beddawi, asking him to pass on this message to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Qabalan also said that the Shia in Lebanon "would never abandon the Arab cause, primarily the Palestinian conflict, and are resistors to the Zionist enemy."
"The Resistance's only concern is to confront the Zionist enemy, it's only enemy," Qabalan said, adding it did not want to be distracted from its premier objective.
