Mitchell and Netanyahu fail to agree settlement compromise
Source: Hizbollah Site Staff, 16-09-2009
US Special Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell failed to wrest a compromise on settlements from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following their meeting on Wednesday, but the two men agreed to meet again on Friday for a third time in a week. They did not make statements following the meeting.
Mitchell had met with Netanyahu for the second time in two days on Wednesday in an attempt to get Israel to agree to some kind of a suspension on settlement construction that would be acceptable to the Palestinians and enable negotiations to resume after they were suspended in late December amid the Gaza War.
He voiced hope that the current "phase" of his efforts would lead to a "positive conclusion" in the coming weeks.
