Friday 2 October: A day in solidarity with Al Aqsa
Friday 2 October is declared as "A Day of Anger" in solidarity with the fellow Muslims in Al Quds, who were physically protecting "the Sanctity of the Al Aqsa mosque from the vile actions of the Zionists", who entered the sacred quarters of the mosque on Sunday.
Organizations called upon dedicating Friday's sermon to not only the role of Al Aqsa as Islam's third holiest mosque, but also the dangers it faces from the "designs of the Zionists".
The events of the Sunday unfolded when a group of about 150 Zionists entered the mosque compound under the armed guard of Zionist authorities, on the occasion of Yom Kippur, the Jewish holy day. The brave sacrifices of Muslims in defense of Al Aqsa mosque upon noticing the presence of the group prevented them from proceeding. The Muslims were then attacked by the Zionist police. Many Muslims were injured and arrested.
Palestinians in the occupied territories declared a general strike on Thursday, October 1st marking the 9th anniversary of the outbreak of the "October Riots," generally seen as the first month of violence at the start of the Second Intifada (uprising).
On 1 October 2000, 13 Palestinians were shot dead by "Israeli" police. The strike in the Galilee commemorates their deaths, those killed during the month, and following years of the Intifada.
While the second uprising, or Al-Aqsa Intifada, began on 28 September 2000 with a provocative visit of then "Israeli" Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, a major series of riots and civil disobedience by Palestinian residents and Arab citizens of the occupied land that ran through the month of October got the civil uprising underway.
The action was coordinated by the Higher Arab Monitoring Committee. Several small ceremonies were held in Palestinian towns throughout the occupied Palestine, but the major ceremony was a procession to the cemetery where most of the slain were buried, in the Galilee town of Arabeh.
Meanwhile here in Lebanon, a protest is held after the Friday prayers in solidarity with the Palestinian people and in defense of Al aqsa mosque where Hamas representative Ousama Hamdan as well as other officials and men of religion give speeches and statements in support of Palestine and Al Aqsa mosque in particular.
