The Anatolian Eagle, a joint military maneuver by the US, NATO, Italy, "Israel" and Turkey has been canceled after Ankara withdraws from the exercise over Tel Aviv's participation in the drill.

The Jerusalem Post reported on Sunday that Turkey's decision to cancel the maneuvers was taken over "Israel's" decision to send planes to the exercise which possibly took part in the Gaza war last December, which killed at least 1500 Palestinians and injured many others, a large number of them women and children.

"The exercise was postponed due to a Turkish decision to change the composition of the participants and not allow the "Israel" Air Force to participate, a decision we were informed of only several days ago," a statement by the "Israeli" Air Force said.

"Israeli" officials claim that both the US and NATO warned that they would withdraw from the exercise if "Israel" did not participate in it.

In reaction to Turkey's surprising cancellation of the joint drill, a senior "Israeli" official stated that "Israel" is concerned about its jeopardized ties with Turkey, according to Haaretz "Israeli" newspaper.

"Israel's" foreign ministry held an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss mounting tension between "Israel" and Turkey, after Ankara canceled the Anatolian Eagle maneuvers.

"Israeli" Foreign Ministry sources confirmed that the meeting had taken place following instructions by ministry director general Yossi Gal, but they declined to give details.

"Israeli" officials are debating the depth of the crisis. Some officials say the Turkish government under Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is not interested in strategic ties with "Israel".

"It may be that the reality has changed and the strategic ties that we thought existed have simply ended," said a senior "Israeli" official. "Maybe we need to be the ones who initiate renewed thinking regarding our ties and must adopt response measures."

Erdogan has blamed "Israel" for committing genocide in the Gaza Strip. Erdogan had confronted President Shimon Peres at Davos in January and has insisted that "Israel" must be tried for war crimes. The Turkish leader has also called for sanctions against Iran to be lifted, and has called on the international community to focus on "Israel's" nuclear capabilities instead.
