Hajj Hassan: The problem of agriculture lies in political decision needed for disbursement of the necessary funds
Local Editor, 14-11-2009
Former Minister of Agriculture, Elias Skaff, as he left his ministerial post said in describing the new minister in the National Unity Government (NUG) Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan: "The right man at the right time," adding that he is a "Remedy for the Ministry of Agriculture and the agricultural sector."
Skaff pointed out that former ministers succeeding in this office tried but collided with the mentality that ‘Lebanon has no place for agriculture', the reason why the ministry's share of the general budget was less than 1%.
In his turn, the new Minister of Agriculture in the NUG, Dr. Hussein Hajj said he knows of the farmers suffering from the 2000-2005 speech of the Parliamentary head, hence he can straight to the problem, saying it lies in the political decision that determines the necessary funds to be spent, allocates the required human resources and decrees the necessary legislation for agriculture.
He then went into giving a live example on the subject of pesticides, remedies and soils.
He pointed out that he will visit the three heads of the state, the President of the Republic, the House Speaker and the Prime Minister, to place the document of the Ministry of Agriculture in their hands in order to begin its implementation. He stressed that the matter goes back to the farmers for whom the Ministry of Agriculture was created, emphasizing that this ministry belongs to farmers, peasants, fishermen and all Lebanese citizens.
Therefore, if this ministry does not serve them, it would be because slackness and negligence by the ministry, I, and the State, and the citizen and the nation pay the price. This is as far as the legislative workshop is concerned.
