Iran to build new nuke facilities in response to IAEA warning
Local Editor, 30-11-2009
The Iranian government responded yesterday-Sunday- to the warning issued by the IAEA by announcing its intention to build 10 new uranium enrichment facilities.
A Cabinet meeting headed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday adopted plans to build 10 industrial scale uranium enrichment facilities to produce nuclear fuel.
The announcement came just two days after the International Atomic Energy Agency voted to criticize the Islamic Republic for allegedly building an enrichment plant in secret.
On his part, Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi told state radio on Monday that Iran has been urged to give a strong response to the resolution approved by the IAEA.
U.S. and its allies have called for an immediate halt to Iran's enrichment of uranium.
Iran, however, insists that its nuclear plan is only for peaceful purposes, vowing to continue its uranium enrichment activity despite pressure and sanctions from Western countries
