Bloody jet attacks in Yemen, another failing US policy
The US has not had enough of Iraq and Afghanistan, as it is now trying to launch attacks in Yemen. Not a very surprising thing according to analysyts, as the region has been a US target since a long time as it aims at controling the water passages in that region, particularly the Red sea.
At least 120 Houthis have lost lives and 44 others sustained injuries as US fighter jets took part in air strikes in the north-western Yemeni province of Saada.
According to the Daily Telegraph, US had sent its special forces to train the Yemeni army, as Saudi Arabia is also lending full support to the Yemeni government's crackdown on the Houthi fighters.
Saudi Arabia has begun its offensive more than two months ago, after the Yemeni government launched its "Operation Scortched Earth" to crush the fighters in the mountainous north.
As for the US military, it continued its air raids on Yemen's northern beleaguered regions for the third day consecutively , which have already been the target of joint Saudi-Yemen offensive against the Houthi fighters.
Based on a report, the air-raids targeted two mosques, which have killed scores of civilians and left thousands displaced from their homes in one day only.
However, Houthi fighters reported of at least 28 attacks launched by "US modern fighter jets" on the north-western province of Sa'ada on Monday.
"The US air force perpetrated an appalling massacre against citizens in the north of Yemen as it launched air raids on various populated areas, markets, refugee camps and villages along with Saudi warplanes," the northern Yemen-based Houthi fighters said.
They added, "The savage crime committed by the US air force shows the real face of the United States. It cancels out much touted American claims of human rights protection, promotion of freedoms of citizens as well as democracy."
On the US intervention in Yemen, political analyst Dr. Jamal Wakim says in an interview with the website that Yemen has strategic importance in the region, and that obviously the United States considers it very important that it monopolizes this country in such a way that allows it to take control over the region and the red sea to serve its own interests.
"It is a country of Geo-strategic location when it comes to controlling the region. Since the early years of the 20th century, Yemen was a hot spot which allows taking control over the region, the red sea being of particular importance."
Wakim said there are doubts Iran wants to influence the region, which will consequently damage the interests of "Israel", and that the US considers such a step a threat and a dangerous breach to its monopoly over the region.
He added: "the US intervention today in Yemen, comes as it fears Iranian intervention, in such a way that Iran would extend its influence in the region and would serve it in case of any coming confrontations with "Israel".
Political analyst Wakim concluded at the end of the phone interview, that the US will not achieve any tangible results.
"The US has tried intervening in similar tensioned situations but got no results at all, just like it intervened earlier in the Lebanese civil war or in Somalia in the early 90s, the case is just the same now and there will be no tangible results to US intervention."
According to Wakim, the US will not reap any fruits to such actions; rather it will cause more tension and negativity in the region.
The conflict in northern Yemen began in 2004 between Sana'a and Houthi fighters. The conflict intensified in August 2009 when the Yemeni army launched their operation in an attempt to crush the fighters in the northern province of Sa'ada.
