China Continues Diplomacy over Iran
Local Editor 01-04-2010
Despite the US efforts for initiating sanctions against Tehran, China said Thursday that it continues to work for "peaceful resolution" towards the Iranian nuclear case.
Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Qin Gang said: "On the Iranian nuclear issue, China will continue to endeavor towards a peaceful resolution". "We have always and will continue to push for a peaceful settlement of this issue", Qin added, stressing that issues should be resolved by "diplomatic means".
The US ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, caused China's remarks when she said, "China has agreed to sit down and begin serious negotiations over imposing fresh sanctions against Iran".
A US continuous accusation towards Iran, over seeking nuclear weapons, has been on the run, wanting the UN Security Council to set sanctions against Tehran.
China on the other hand, which is one of five veto-wielding members of the US Security Council, insists that diplomacy could still pave the way in solving Iran's nuclear issue.
Iran says that UN nuclear watchdog is monitoring Tehran's peaceful nuclear energy program, and its nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili is now in China for negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
