Nuclear Summit Kicks off in Iran…US Only Nuclear Criminal
The much-awaited international conference on disarmament and non-proliferation of atomic weapons has started in the Iranian capital on Saturday.
During the two-day conference, international politicians will put their heads together to address the nuclear disarmament issue.
Representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and experts from over 70 countries will also be taking part in the conference, which has been called "Nuclear Energy for All, Nuclear Weapon for No One."
According to Press TV, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior aide to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, read the Leader's message to the Tehran conference.
"The one and only nuclear criminal of the world now falsely claims to be fighting the spread of nuclear weapons but has definitely not taken and will not take any serious action regarding the issue," read the message.
"There is only one government that has committed nuclear crime and that is the government of the US, which launched nuclear attacks against the innocent Japanese people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in an inhumane asymmetrical war," it added.
"If the US claim of fighting the spread of nuclear weapons is not a lie, how can the Zionist regime manage to avoid accepting international regulations - in particular the NPT - and turn occupied Palestine into an arsenal loaded with nuclear weapons?" asked the Leader.
By hosting the event, Tehran hopes to raise awareness in the international community about the fact that nuclear weapon stockpiles held by world powers are the most significant menace to world security.
Nuclear doctrines, atomic discrimination, globalization of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and double standards applied by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in its dealings with various states, are also to be high on the agenda.
The need to make "clean and peaceful nuclear energy" available to all countries is also expected to be a highlight of the event.
