Syria, Qatar, and Turkey: Coordinating Efforts to Halt "Israeli" Practices in Al Quds
During his two-day visit to Turkey, Syrian President Bashar Al Assad stated that achievement of "viable peace" with "Israel" is impossible in the Middle East since the regime does not seek peace.
Regarding resumption of mediated talks with "Israel", Assad told reporters at a joint conference with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul on Saturday, "Peace, as it appears, is not an "Israeli" demand, but we are committed to this mediation and Turkey's role."
"We also emphasize the fact that "Israel" is not a partner, at least at the present stage, and I do not think it was a partner in the past either," Reuters quoted the Syrian leader as saying.
""Israel" is not ready for mediation because it knows that a successful mediation will bring peace, and the "Israeli" side does not want peace," Assad added.
For his part, Gul said Damascus had expressed its readiness to resume the talks a number of times, but the proposal had not been reciprocated by Tel Aviv.
On Sunday, a meeting was held between President Bashar Al Assad, Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a working lunch hosted by Erdogan in Istanbul.
The meeting dealt with ways of boosting relations between Syria, Turkey and Qatar to achieve strategic cooperation among regional countries to be positively reflected on its peoples.
They emphasized on rejecting "Israeli" threats and allegations targeting Syria and the region, and stressed that those threats create a tense atmosphere in the region and aim at diverting attention from the "Israeli" crimes in the occupied Arab territories.
The three leaders also discussed the situation in Al Quds (Jerusalem) and the continued practices of Judiazation aiming at undermining its Arab and Islamic identity.
The leaders agreed to coordinate their efforts to put an end to the "Israeli" exercises that contradict international law and legitimacy resolutions.
Emphasis was also on the need to end divisions in Palestine and achieve national reconciliation, which forms the basis for the restoration of Palestinian's full rights.
Concerning regional issues, the leaders considered that diplomacy is the only way to resolve them.
They expressed their hope that the outcome of latest Iraqi elections would lead to the formation of a national government representing all spectrums of the Iraqi people.
They assured Iran's right to possess peaceful nuclear energy and the need to rid the Middle East of all mass destruction weapons, on top of them, the "Israeli" nuclear weapon.
President Al Assad and Emir Hamad praised Turkish positions that support Arab just causes, voicing hope that other states will follow the suit in pressuring "Israel" to lift the siege imposed on Palestinians and end its occupations of Arab lands.
