Haaretz: 2,700 Houses to be Built as Soon as West Bank Settlement Freeze Ends
Local Editor
The occupation Regional councils prepare for building at least 2,700 new housing units in the West Bank as soon as the current settlement freeze ends this September, Zionist newspaper Haaretz reported on Monday.
The council plans to continue the construction of projects authorized prior to the freeze, unlike news projects that need permission from the "Israeli" war minister, the paper revealed.
The Shomron regional council in the northern West Bank, for instance, is gearing up for the construction of 800 new houses.
Haaretz quoted head of an "Israeli" Regional council in the northern West Bank Gershon Mesika saying, "Time is short and there is much to be done, we want to welcome September prepared for final committee permits in order to immediately issue those permits as soon as the [freeze] period lapses, and to allow the commencement of construction."
In a letter he sent, Mesika instructing all of the settlements to prepare to "grant building permits, to wrap up project planning and to transfer them to the engineering department for inspection."
"Israel" has approved the US demand of freezing settlement construction after relations between US and the Zionist enemy started deteriorating in the beginning of this year.
