Japan to Develop Ties With Iran, Sees Tehran Declaration Important
Local Editor
In an interview with IRNA Iranian news agency, the Japanese Foreign Minister, Katsuya Okada said "Tokyo is ready for consultation aimed at materialization of the Tehran Declaration". He further expressed that Japan is interested in expansions of ties with Tehran.
"Tokyo-Tehran relations have been constructed on mutual understanding and confidence", Okada said, stressing that both countries enjoy friendly ties.
As Iran represents a country with rich culture and civilization, Tokyo feels it is rather important to provide itself with good ties with Tehran.
Revealing an interest in economic cooperation between both countries, the Japanese Foreign Minister assured that pursuing a peaceful nuclear technological program is a right of the Iranians.
"Tehran Declaration will play a role in confidence-building process at international arena", Katsuya Okada said.
The Japanese Foreign Minister also conducted a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Davutoglu, where the latter expressed deep sorrow for the latest "Israeli" attack on the Turkish-led Freedom Flotilla convoy to Gaza, which resulted in the martyrdom of nine Turkish activists.
The phone talk, Okada invited Davutoglu to visit Japan before the end of this year, showing big interest in carrying out the Tehran Declaration, which Turkey is part of the trilateral agreement.
The Tehran Declarations is an agreement signed on May 17 between each of Iran, Brazil and Turkey, as they attended the G15 summit in Tehran.
The agreement states that Tehran is to send 1,200 kilograms of low-enriched uranium to Turkey in return for 120 kilograms of highly-enriched uranium, mostly used as fuel for Iran's medical research reactor in progress.
