Dated Friday, 31 October 2008, a cable entitled "REPORTING AND COLLECTION NEEDS: PALESTINIAN" was published by Whistleblower Wikileaks which revealed "national human intelligence collection directive" on Palestinian issues sent from Washington to Middle East embassies.

According to the cable, the mission of reporting officers is to include as much of the following information as possible: office and organizational titles; names, position titles and other information on business cards; numbers of telephones, cell phones, pagers and faxes; compendia of contact information, such as telephone directories (in compact disc or electronic format if available) and e-mail listings; internet and intranet "handles", internet e-mail addresses, web site identification-URLs; credit card account numbers; frequent flyer account numbers; work schedules, and other relevant biographical information.

Precisely speaking of the Islamic Resistance in Palestine, Hamas, the cable exposed that the officers were asked to gather information on details of travel plans such as routes and vehicles used by Palestinian Authority leaders and HAMAS members. In addition, Biographical, financial and biometric information on key PA and HAMAS leaders and representatives were demanded whether from inside Gaza, the West Bank and outside.

Among the information demanded from officers is also information regarding the different sectors of the Palestinian State, as well as Al Quds (Jerusalem) (including sovereignty, governance, and access to/control of the "Holy Basin"), as well as plans prepared by Washington to foil Palestinian reconciliation attempts.

Meanwhile, the White House told the Palestinian government of President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, that the P.A should not overreact to these documents that are scheduled to be fully released in the coming days.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Palestinian official told the Maan News Agency that Washington's message indicates that the White House is not making a big deal of the issue; therefore the Palestinian leadership should also not make a big deal of it.

The White House's message revealed that some of the leaked documents will include "assumptions regarding the U.S. support to "Israel" over the Palestinians and the peace process.

The Palestinian official said that "it is not a secret that Washington is acting against Palestinian reconciliation, and that it loves "Israel" and is trying to boost the power of Fateh leader, Mohammad Dahlan.

WikiLeaks head, Julian Assange, stated Sunday that the United States practically contacted almost every country in the World "to brief them about what some of these embarrassing revelations will do".
