Egyptian Authorities Demand Suspension of all Mobile Phone Operators, Causes Lack of Communication, Media Coverage
Local Editor
The Dow Jones Newswire reported that the Vodafone Group said Friday that the Egyptian authorities demanded the suspension of all mobile phone operators in selected areas in Egypt.
This comes at the time where anti-government protests are mounting around the country.
Vodafone stated it is obliged to comply with the authorities' demand, under Egyptian legislation, adding the authorities will be clarifying the situation later.
This has led to crippling communication and the coverage of correspondents from different local, regional, and international Medias.
Al Jazeera TV Channel correspondents in Egypt stated that there is a difficulty in communicating, in addition to knowing the latest developments regarding the ongoing protests, due to the suspension of telecommunications operators and the internet.
Egypt's Friday of Rage is still mounting with numerous and outstanding participation on the many protests taking part in the different regions of the country.
