Head of IAEA Says Organization Does Not Have Hard Evidence Implicating Tehran in Pursuing Nuclear Bomb
Local Editor
Head of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukia Amano, said the Islamic Republic of Iran is steadily producing enriched uranium.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Amano said, "Iran is somehow producing uranium enriched to 3.5% and 20%. They are producing is steadily, constantly".
Furthermore, head of the UN organization expressed concerns that Iran might be pursuing military goals through its uranium program, yet stated that the IAEA does not have any hard evidence implicating that Tehran is pursuing a nuclear bomb.
"We are not sure if they are hiding something. We don't have a smoking gun. We have concerns", Amano told the newspaper.
The United Stated, on top of other western powers, have been trying to shut down the Iranian nuclear program, calming that Tehran is purchasing its nuclear program for military means.
Before imposing sanctions against its nuclear program, Iran has constantly repeated that its nuclear program is strictly peaceful, and aims at technological and medical developments.
Iran is a state member of the IAEA, and is a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
