Amnesty International Urges UNSC to Refer Gaddafi to International Criminal Court
Local Editor
In light of the recent massacres conducted against the peaceful anti-regime protesters in Libya, Amnesty International urged on Friday the UN Security Council to refer the Libyan situation to the International Criminal Court, and to impose a weapons embargo.
Salil Shetty, Amnesty International's Secretary General stated, "Colonel Gaddafi and his chain of command have to understand they will answer for their actions". He also added, "They need to see that investigations and prosecution are reality they will face".
Furthermore, the Amnesty International official affirmed that this should act as a wake-up call to those who are listening and implementing the brutal orders, addressing them saying, "Your crimes will not go unpunished".
In this context, the Amnesty International Press Release published on its website on Friday stated, "Members of the Security Council must act now to stop the outrageous abuses taking place on the streets of Tripoli and elsewhere in Libya".
The human rights organization reaffirmed its stance, calling upon the UN Security Council to immediately take action on the Libyan regard and impose arms embargo, so that it would prevent from further human crimes conducted by Moammar Gaddafi and those associated with him.
