US Announces Sanctions on Libya
Local Editor
The Unites State's President Barack Obama announced sanctions to be imposed on the Libyan government for its inhumane massacres committed against the Libyan protesters.
President Obama signed an executive order, in which he approved the blocking of the property and transactions of Libya.
In a statement issued on Friday, the US President said, "The Libyan government's continued violation of human rights, brutalization of its people, and outrageous threats have rightly drawn the strong and broad condemnation of the international community".
He also added, "These sanctions therefore target the Gaddafi government, while protecting the assets that belong to the people of Libya".
This comes at the time when other humanitarian and international organizations are condemning the Gaddafi regime's blatant practices and massacres against the civilians in Libya.
The UN Security Council is expected to continue its sessions specialized for discussing the draft resolution to impose international sanctions on the Gaddafi regime.
On the same level, Europe as well is preparing to adopt measure that would include a ban of arms exports to the Libyan capital of Tripoli, in addition to freezing their asserts, urging that this issue would be referred to the International Criminal Court.
