Egyptian Revolutionaries Gather in Tahrir Square, Celebrate Collapse of Shafiq’s Government
Local Editor
Hundreds of thousands of Egyptian revolutionaries fathered on Friday in the Tahrir (liberation) Square in Cairo, in order to celebrate the collapse of Ahmad Shafiq's government.
The protesters reaffirmed their demands of their country's reform, calling for prosecuting the officials responsible for the corruption which took place in Egypt.
PM-designate Issam Charaf pledged to protect the Egyptian revolution, stating he would work hard to implement their demands. He also revealed his intention to visit the Tahrir Square on Friday to take part in the mass protest.
This came as Charaf met with a delegation from the Coalition of January 25 Revolution, during which he listened to their demands regarding the transitional period.
Both sides discussed development initiatives proposed by the revolution's youth. PM Charaf supported the delegation's proposal to postpone the parliamentary elections until security is restored, and candidates would take their time to present their candidacy projects to voters.
