Ashton Welcomes Confidence Vote in New Lebanese Government

The European Union (EU) High Representative Catherine Ashton praised the confidence vote in the Lebanese parliament, describing it as a welcome development, adding that it would allow the PM Najib Mikati government to begin its work on the political and economic challenges Lebanon is facing.
In a statement issued late Thursday, Ashton said, "I take note of the Government's Ministerial Declaration which highlights the importance of deepening relations with the European Union".
Furthermore, Ashton expressed the EU's will to develop its partnership with Lebanon and "support the much needed reforms".
