Lebanese ambassador to the United Nations Nawaf Salam reiterated Thursday Lebanon's commitment to U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 and highlighted "Israel's" violations of the resolution.

Salam issued a statement on the Security Council's discussions of the 16th report of U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Resolution 1701.

"We reiterated Lebanon's keenness to implement all the items of Resolution 1701 as stipulated by the policy statement of the new government." The envoy said stressing that "Israel" was violating the resolution, citing more than 8,000 "Israeli" violations since 1701 issuance.

Salam, who also touched on the "Israeli" enemy continued occupation of the Lebanese part of the village of Ghajar, Shebaa Farms and Kfar Shuba hills, pointed out "its infringement on Lebanese territorial waters and other violations."

Repeating condemnation of the Zionist entity for shooting peaceful and civilian demonstrators on 15 May, which led to the fall of the martyrs and the wounded in Maroun al-Ras, Salam rejected "Israeli" claims on arms smuggling.

Salam urged the international community to contribute to building the
capabilities of the Lebanese Army to help it accomplish its tasks
