As hundreds of people marched on Martyrdom Square (Pearl Square) in Bahrain's capital Manama, protesters were prevented from returning to the symbolic square in the Bahraini capital.

"New York Times" daily showed Saturday opposition videos that uncover how Bahraini Security forces have used tear gas and armored vehicles to drive back protesters streaming toward the square that was once the center for pro-reform demonstrations in the Gulf nation.

Al Wefaq, Bahrain's largest opposition group, said in a statement posted on its Web site that Ali Hassan al-Daihi, the 70-year-old father of a party leader, died on Thursday after being beaten by police officers the night before.

"The assault left a deep wound in his head, bruises to his forehead, a cut near his eye and blood gushing from his mouth."

The party also released photographs of Mr. Daihi with cuts and bruises to his face and blood on his clothes, receiving medical treatment on Wednesday.

A video posted online Friday appeared to show large crowd of mourners at the funeral chanting, "Down with Hamad," referring to Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa.

Zainab Alkhawaja, the daughter of an imprisoned human rights activist, reported on the funeral in updates and photographs reported that it was "almost impossible to reach" the area where the funeral was held, perhaps because it was "very close to Pearl Square."

The authorities, she reported on Friday morning, were apparently "very nervous that people might head to Pearl Square after the funeral."
