"It's our pleasure today to have somebody who's so dear to all Lebanese people, someone whose name has made us proud and enjoyed world wide fame, a Lebanese self-made citizen who succeeded throughout the world, Carlos Ghosn." These were the words of Fouad Saniora, the head of the unconstitutional government praising Ghosn in the Grand Serail on the 27th of August 2007. Carlos Ghosn is the Renault - Nissan Chief executive who was honored for being a Lebanese model that expresses his countrymen's ambitions for success. But after nearly five months, Ghosn, also holding a French passport, was hosted in "Israel" to conclude commercial deals with an "Israeli" company that produces electric cars. Ghosn was warmly welcomed by "Israeli" officials, namely President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
"For the first time in our history, we have created the circumstances to sell electric cars for a large number of people in "Israel" starting in 2011", Ghosn said on Monday 21/01/08.
What's eye-catching is that Ghosn was proposed by some February 14 figures as a presidential candidate to head the Lebanese Republic. Hence, his economic visit of 'normalization' to "Israel" at this particular timing is controversial.
"It's an issue of public opinion and a scandal to Carlos Ghosn as well as those who have promoted him in Lebanon. It's not true that he was forced into this; Ghosn is the Chief executive of this multinational company. So, he chose to follow the US plan that serves "Israel's" domination on the region and its economy", member of National Media Council Ghaleb Qandil said.
Ghosn also holds a French Passport, but since he is a Lebanese citizen, the penal law that is applied on the collaborators with an enemy state is also applied on him.
"If "Israel" was an enemy state, then laws should be implemented starting with article 285 of the penal law that says that the articles of the penal law should be applied on everyone who collaborates with "Israel"", counselor Issam Karam, the former head of the Lebanese Bar Association, said.
It is therefore one of the many faces of collaboration with the "Israeli" enemy (by law, Lebanon considers "Israel" an enemy state). It is the economic face that enters the line of normalization with "Israel" amid a US endeavor to transform the Jewish state into a dominant economic center in the Middle East.
