In a short interview with the distinguished American author Noam Chomsky conducted by Abby Martin for teleSUR's The Empire Files program, Chomsky raised many questions regarding the issue of the US wars, besides other topics.

Chomsky: What Right Do Americans Have to Kill Others They Hate?

The man wondered: "what right do we have to kill somebody in some other country who we don't like?" as he meant the wars on Iraq, Afghanistan, and the other wars funded and backed up by the United States.

This idea, that the United States has the right to invade, bomb, and kill, is a myth that Chomsky debunked during the interview.

Taking the Iraqi example, and according to the California-based investigative organization Project Censored, the toll of the Iraqis killed as a result of the American invasion and occupation of the country hit more than a million Iraqis.

Chomsky called the invasion of Iraq "the worst crime of this century," adding: "Suppose it had worked ... it's still a major crime, why do we have the right to invade another country?"

He also pointed out that in the current landscape of US presidential contenders there is not one true anti-war candidate.

The prominent author further explained that Obama is considered and anti-War candidate, "For example, Obama is considered an anti-war candidate [but] Obama is running a global terror program of a kind that has never been seen before, the drone program," he said.

He said this pro-war, right-wing shift has been a result of the implementation of neoliberal policies, which shifted both parties to the right, pushing the Republicans "off the spectrum."

The interview also discussed the issue of American elections and American power.

The world famous author then took a jab at the two main political parties in the US. He explained that both sides have become more right-wing.

He blasted Republicans for embracing radical extremism which has turned them into a "radical insurgency."

Chomsky then turned to the Democratic Party and touched on their transformation, saying mainstream Democrats have taken positions once held by moderate Republicans.

"Today's mainstream Democrats are pretty much what used to be called Republicans," he noted.
