Vienna - The United Nations Human Rights Council, meeting in Geneva, denounced “Israel’s” military operations in Gaza Strip and voted to send a fact-finding mission to Beit Hanoun.
The United Nations council, meeting in special session, adopted a resolution expressing concern "at the continued violation by “Israel” of the human rights of the Palestinian people" in Gaza, the council said in a news release.
The council said it was particularly concerned about last week`s artillery shelling of a residential area in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, where scores of civilians were killed and 60 others injured.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour said she will visit “Israel” and Gaza, where she plans to meet with officials and be briefed by civil society groups, non-governmental organizations and the UN agencies.
