In his first Order of the Day, new Army Commander General Jean Kahwaji announced Tuesday his leadership tactics, which are based on commitment to the fundamental concepts and principles the military institution is based on.
Indeed, Kahwaji confirmed the necessity of balancing between two major army roles: to confront the "Israeli" enemy and terrorism on the one hand, and to consolidate the internal security on the other.
He told troops to focus on south Lebanon to reclaim the occupied land and on the domestic situation to consolidate security and stability. "The troops should also help in providing the proper atmosphere to facilitate the practice of democracy and public freedoms as guaranteed by the constitution and law."
Safeguarding security consolidates state reverence, General Kahwaji highlighted, urging his troops to upgrade efforts exerted to "halt the bleed" of a nation targeted by an enemy "across the border" and "terror" that spreads "horror and fear" in various areas.
He said the troops' "total loyalty to the military establishment and the homeland" tops the regular force's priorities. Unity of the regular force is "the base of your performance and success," he told the troops, calling on not to bow to difficulties.
One day earlier, Kahwaji officially took on his duties in the Ministry of Defense in Yarze and declared his commitment to the national and military constants as well as to the course set by President Michel Suleiman.
Kahwaji is also set Tuesday to preside over a meeting of the Military Council for the first time, which is, however, not expected to resolve the sensitive issue of military and security positions.
