MP Ammar supports reconciliation in Tripoli: Three bases for preserving Lebanese sovereignty: The population, Resistance
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 7-9-2008
Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Ali Ammar said that Hizbullah supported reconciliation in the North and he expressed hope that it happens today rather than tomorrow. Ammar added that the Doha Agreement requested that parties stop using weapons to create conflicts.
In an interview with NBN television on Sunday, Ammar said he hoped that the conciliatory tone of MP Saad Hariri in Tripoli spreads to other Lebanese regions. He added that Hariri must be aware of the declarations issued by some figures close to him, who insisted on a specific tone.
Ammar said that some parties had been forced to agree to the Doha Agreement, referring to Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, and Ammar added that these parties did not miss a chance to prevent agreements between other political forces.
Ammar also said that the upcoming dialogue roundtable, which will be headed by President Michel Sleiman, was on the way and that it would reveal which parties truly wanted a national defense strategy.
"There are three bases for preserving Lebanese sovereignty within the same state: the population, the Resistance, and the army," he said.
Ammar added that when Syrian President Bashar al-Assad requested Lebanese President Michel Sleiman to give higher importance to the North, Assad might be worried about the effect of violence on Syria.
"As for them [the March 14 coalition], how many times has the American administration requested them to do things?" he asked.
