UNITED NATIONS--Iran has written a letter to the United Nations to protest against the "Israeli" regime's "dangerous" threats to kidnap President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and use force against the Islamic Republic.
In the letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Iran's Ambassador to the Unite Nations Mohammad Khazaee condemned comments on Tuesday by the occupying regime's Cabinet Minister Rafi Eitan that kidnapping Ahmadinejad was a practical option.
Khazaee also blasted comments on Sept 3 by "Israel"'s War Minister Ehud Barak repeating the threat to use force against Iran.
"While the Islamic Republic of Iran has never threatened other nations," Khazaee said it "would not hesitate to act in self-defense to respond to any attack against the Iranian nation and to take appropriate defensive measures to protect itself, its people and its officials."
"Israel's" UN Mission said it would have no comment on Khazaee's letter.
It was not the first time that "Israelis" used the language of threats against Iran. The Islamic republic has been threatened by "Israel" to be the target of military attacks over its refusal to abandon uranium enrichment activities as demanded by the West.
Iran stresses the Western demand is baseless and unjustified since the country is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which stipulates the civilian use of the nuclear technology.
Khazaee called the latest "Israeli" threats "dangerous" and a violation of international law, the UN Charter, and "the basic values of the civilized world."
The Iranian envoy called for "a resolute and clear response" by the UN Security Council and asked Ban to circulate the letter to council members.
"It is indeed unfortunate that the inaction of the Security Council vis-à-vis the previous threatening statements of the said regime against Iran and other countries of the region has only encouraged it ... to openly threaten to use force against members of the United Nations or to commit criminal acts against their officials," Khazaee said.
