Popular Bloc calls for defense strategy to preserve role of the Resistance

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Popular Bloc said that Wednesday's assassination of Democratic Party official Sheikh Saleh Aridi aimed to encourage violence in the Mount Lebanon region, and undermined stability and peace.
The Popular Bloc added that the assassination aimed to obstruct the work of the national unity government and the openness of different parties following the creation of the Doha Agreement, which ended weeks of deadly fighting in May.
The statement added that national reconciliation strengthened unity among Lebanese people.
The bloc called for ongoing dialogue, especially during cabinet sessions that aimed to consolidate democracy.
The statement called for the defense strategy to be discussed during the national dialogue, which will commence on September 16. It called for the preservation of the Resistance and cooperation with the Lebanese army.
