MP of the Loyalty to the Resistance Hassan Hobballah said that the meeting between Hizbullah and the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) held on Monday in Khaldeh falls within the spectrum of Hizbullah's policy of communicating and initiating dialogue with all Lebanese parties, on the premises of "protecting Lebanon from Zionist danger and preserving national unity from divisions and strengthening civil peace from any security disturbances."
In an interview with al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper on Tuesday, Hobballah said that the timing of the meeting was related to the role played by Minister Talal Arslan, who has been preparing for this meeting since the latest Amal-PSP meeting.
"I do not think that the assassination of Lebanese Democratic Party member Sheikh Saleh Aridi speeded up the meeting. However, it was an alert to everybody and the will was there," he said. Hobballah added that there have been efforts for the last two months to organize a meeting with Future Movement representatives, but the security status of Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was critical. "Another alternative is being studied," he said.
Hobballah said that elements of the intelligence apparatus were instigating conflict through assassinations and bombings. He said that whenever there is rapprochement between the Lebanese, a security disturbance occurs. He called on all security forces to strengthen national unity and civil peace.
